Golf Refugees was one of the very first of a new breed of indie golf brands (along with Subpar from California).

Their appearance coincided with the publishing of two alternative golf magazines; Schwing in the US and Putt in the UK.

Golf Refugees' radical black golf ball first featured on Channel 4's Big Breakfast and then in numerous style/fashion/golf magazines.

GQ USA described it as "the irreverent brainchild of some wise-assed Gen-MTV British lads who are subverting golf's stuffy country-club image"
